On today’s show I have the pleasure of welcoming writer, digital marketer & President at Starling Social Alyson Shane to talk about the evolving digital marketing and social media landscape, the intersection between digital marketing and rhetoric, and why you should embrace your ‘weird self' and lean into different ways of communicating with your potential customers.
Alyson is a writer, speaker, business owner and digital marketer who has been publishing content online since 2002. She holds a degree in Rhetoric, Writing & Communications and is the founder and President of Starling Social, an award-winning digital marketing agency.
Through her agency, Alyson has worked with a number of high-profile brands and nonprofits, including Bell, The National Film Board, MLT Aikins LLP, IPSOS Reid, Royal LePage Prime, Siloam Mission, The Canadian Association of Professional Immigration Consultants, and many more. Alyson and her team develop data-driven strategies for social media, social ads, pay-per-click advertising, as well as content strategies for websites, newsletters, blogs, and more.
Alyson has been teaching courses about digital marketing and strategy for more than 10 years, averaging 1-2 talks per month in addition to appearing on podcasts, panels, and speaking at conferences. She is also an engaged community member who was a finalist for the Women Business Owners of Manitoba’s “2023 Woman Entrepreneur of The Year Award” and Volunteer Manitoba’s “2021 SPARK Outstanding Pro Bono Consultant Award” for her work offering digital marketing services to local nonprofits.
