Hi, and welcome to the show!
On today's show I have the pleasure of welcoming award-winning author and outspoken advocate for introverts and highly sensitive people, Sara Causey, to talk about her path from corporate recruiter to Dag Hammarskjöld biographer and children's book illustrator. Sara's written multiple biographies on the UN's second Secretary-General and now writes children's books that tell quiet, sensitive kids their nature is a strength.
Sara's bio reads like a checklist of impressive titles: award-winning author, poet, visual artist, biographer. What most people don't know is that she built all of it after walking away from a career in government contracting and Fortune 100 recruitment.
Sara traded the boardroom for words, imagery, and ideas, and found herself drawn into the life of Dag Hammarskjöld, the introspective, poetic second Secretary-General of the United Nations. Sara calls her work on his life a true co-creation, a partnership across time. That partnership became two biographies, Decoding the Unicorn and Simply Dag, revealing a man who was fiercely intelligent and quietly revolutionary beneath his composed exterior.
Sara calls her overall approach "eccentricity with purpose." That same philosophy runs through her children's book universe built around Dag the Unicorn, including How to Host a Unicorn and the bilingual Learning with Dag series, all written for quiet, sensitive kids and the adults who were once that kind of child.
This work is for introverts and HSPs who rarely see themselves centered in stories about leadership, for parents wanting children's books that celebrate quiet strength, and for anyone curious about a UN figure history nearly let slip away. Decoding the Unicorn has already won a 2026 American Book Fest Award for Best Biography, and Sara's work has been featured on Yahoo Finance, FOX, and Fast Company.
