My Future Business Interview with VAL JONES

#valjonespeaks #valjones

Hi, and welcome to the show!

On today’s My Future Business Show I have the pleasure of spending time with professional figure skater, author, keynote speaker and peak performance coach, VAL JONES.

Val has an incredible life story which will not only open your eyes and touch your heart, but hopefully it will inspire you to push through any challenges that you face in your personal and professional lives.

To give some context, Val’s experience as a professional skater has seen her share the podium with the likes of Kristi Yamaguchi, Tonya Harding, and Nancy Kerrigan. As household names in the skating world, you don’t get to rub shoulders with this caliber of individual accidently. In fact, it took Val years of hard work and tenacity to achieve top tier success.

During the call, not only does Val share her experience as a professional skater, and how that part of her life helped shape who she is today, she also talks about her struggle with multiple injuries resulting from countless double and triple jumps, and how she was hit with two forms of the debilitating condition known as MRSA.

Normally, MRSA has potentially dire consequences for those suffering with this condition, think cardiac arrest and kidney failure. Fortunately, due to her competitive upbringing at home, her Dad’s love and encouragement, and her own strength and pure determination, Val was able to turn this challenge into positive thoughts and actions that helped her get through it.

One of the key points of the call, was when Val talked about leadership, and how her experience with a dog-sled team, led her to redefine what leadership meant. This idea, which is counterintuitive, is based on the structure of a team of dogs, which is not led by those at the front of the sled, nor in the middle, but actually by those at the rear.

This concept of leading from the back really stood out for me, and makes a great deal of sense. Further to that, Val also talks about how leadership is not always going to come from the same person, and to use the analogy of the dog-sled team, by rotating the team around, every person on the team gets the opportunity to lead.

I enjoyed hearing about Val’s childhood stories of how it used to always be competitive amongst her siblings. Everything from who could get to the car first, to who could pull the funniest face, which as Val mentioned, was often won by her Dad who had a knack for regularly winning this family competition.

In closing, to perform at the pinnacle of performance, think Olympic level performance, Val had to spend countless hours preparing, training and shaping her mind to achieve her goals. This tenacity, consistency and passion, has not only helped Val’s clients recognize that there’s always a higher level of performance, but that Val is the right person to help you take your leadership skills to the next level.
